Tread Lightly's Awareness Course

Tread Lightly!’s new Online Awareness Course goes live.
September 28, 2006

USA - The free 30-minute interactive course covers essential outdoor ethics for motorized and mechanized recreation. It combines flash animation, audio voice-overs, hypothetical scenarios and “knowledge checks” to make a well-rounded, entertaining learning tool.

“Nothing like this has existed for motorized recreationists,” said Mary Van Buren, Tread Lightly!’s education and training specialist. “We’re filling a void by giving everyone a chance to get a good basic knowledge of how to play responsibly in the outdoors from the convenience of their own computer.”

The course specifically addresses ATV riding, mountain biking, four wheeling, off-highway motorcycling, personal watercraft driving and snowmobling.

Land and water managers are also encouraged to consider utilizing the course as a requirement for groups seeking special-use permits or incorporating it into existing education programs.

To get to the Awareness Course simply go to www.treadlightly.org and click on the link titled “Online Awareness Course.”

Tread Lightly! is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower generations to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.
